Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered continued combing operations in sensitive areas to maintain law and order. She issued these directives during a high-level meeting in Lahore. Senior officials briefed her on security, digital monitoring, and community reforms. The chief minister stressed strict enforcement to protect public safety.
The meeting approved new legislation to punish anyone damaging Safe City cameras or government property. Officials said the law will help safeguard surveillance systems across Punjab. Maryam Nawaz also directed departments to improve digital monitoring of individuals listed in the Fourth Schedule. She ordered uninterrupted action against illegally residing Afghan nationals to ensure security.
In a major welfare step, Maryam Nawaz approved the Punjab Chief Minister’s Honorarium Card for Imams. She set February as the issuance deadline and instructed officials to start payments from January 1. Pay orders will be used initially. From February 1, payments will be made through the new cards to ensure transparency and ease.
Officials informed the meeting that 62,994 registration forms for imams have been received across Punjab. Verification of these applications is currently under way. The government decided that any imam involved in harmful, immoral, or financial misconduct will lose the honorarium. This measure aims to maintain accountability within religious institutions.
Maryam Nawaz also ordered the formation of Mosque Management Committees and Tehsil Management Committees across the province. She directed Assistant Commissioners to hold monthly meetings with imams for better coordination. These steps aim to strengthen community oversight and improve governance at the local level.
